John Brown University Women’s Soccer Garners 5th Victory
Siloam Springs, Ark. (September 12, 2003) — In opening round action of the JBU Women’s Soccer Classic, the JBU Golden Eagles scored 4 quick goals in the opening half to take the win over Harris Stowe State College. Sophomore Brooke Williams, JBU’s leading scorer, opened the scoring at the 42:37 mark after an assist by freshman Tara Hachmeister. Frosh Rebecca Armstrong scored the first of her two goals unassisted at 41:20 to go in the first half. Williams scored her second goal of the game on another assist by Hachmeister at the 36 minute point of the half and Armstrong’s second goal came unassisted with 33:30 left to play in the half.
“It is good to be 5-0 at this point in the season. We want to continue to improve as we near the conference race. Our gals are playing some good soccer and we continue to learn the strengths of each player as we are competing in these early season games,” commented Coach Joe Thoma following today’s game.
JBU will play in the second round of the classic on Saturday afternoon at 3 pm against Tabor College who lost on the opening day to Bacone College 5-1. Bacone and Harris Stowe will take the field at 1 pm to complete their play in the 2003 Fall Soccer Classic.
