Arkansas' two-bit's worth

(October 14, 2003) — (Little Rock-AP) -- The Arkansas quarter goes into circulation October 28th. The first residents to get the coin in their hands will be two-thousand students who are to attend a ceremony at Crater of Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro. The youngsters are being encouraged to save, not spend, quarters that commemorate the 25th state's entry into the Union. A daylong series of events is planed at the park and in the city, ending with a fireworks display. Governor Huckabee and Henrietta Holsman Fore, director of the U-S Mint, will officially launch the quarter into circulation at the park during the morning festivities. Park officials said Monday that the event will be standing room only and that school groups from as far away as West Memphis have registered to attend.
