Siloam Springs, Ark (October 14, 2003) — The John Brown University music department hosts acclaimed jazz musicians Peter Krauss and Lisa Turci as part of its Lyceum concert series. Kraus and Turci will perform Tuesday, Oct. 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the Jones Recital Hall in the Cathedral of the Ozarks on the JBU campus. The concert is free and open to the public. The couple will be performing Miles Davis’ Four, Harold Arlen’s Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Haydn’s Moon Dance as well as many other jazz favorites. The performance will also include a piano feature, I Saw Her Standing There, by the Beatles. In 1975, Kruass and Turci married and have been making beautiful music together ever since. They were the house band for the Oklahoma City Waterford Hotel for over a year before deciding to do only freelance work. They have appeared with the OKC Jazz Orchestra, OKC Pops Orchestra and have accompanied local jazz artists as well as visiting stars such as Buddy DeFranco and Phyllis Diller. Originally from Connecticut, Krauss studied privately and performed concerts during his undergraduate years. He moved to Oklahoma City in 1973 and began to play with small jazz groups. Krauss became a regular at the OKC Jazz Orchestra and became the city’s first call jazz session pianist. He has worked with the OKC Philharmonic on numerous occasions, as part of the orchestra and as a featured performer. Turci has been demonstrating her vocal talents in Oklahoma since her youth. She performed at a variety of places during high school and further pursued her musical education in vocal study at Oklahoma City University. She continues to perform, teach, and compose. Krauss and Turci released the CD “ One For My Baby” in Jan. 2002. It is a unique collection of great American songs presented in their trademark style including piano and voice.
