JBU SOCCER WINS THRILLER IN OT

Siloam Springs, Ark. (October 18, 2003) — The John Brown University Golden Eagles men’s soccer team showed a ton of resilience as they battled from behind to defeat Southwestern Oklahoma State University 3-2 in overtime at Siloam Springs on today.

SWOSU took an early lead 1-0 on a goal by junior Cory Davis just nine minutes into the contest. The score remained 1-0 at half. Golden Eagle sophomore Wesley Chase tied the score at 1-1 as JBU got on the scoreboard with their first goal just 2 minutes into the second half. The Bulldogs pulled ahead again 2-1 on a goal from sophomore Tyler Fagan only to be answered once again this time by JBU senior Federico Suarez. Regulation ended at 2-2. With only a minute remaining in the first overtime Suarez kicked in his second goal that proved to be the game winner as JBU pulled out the victory. Frosh Rodrigo Juliao was awarded an assist on the game-winning goal.

JBU junior goalkeeper Pablo Fernandez finished the game with 5 saves including 2 key saves in the final minutes of regulation.

With the victory, the Golden Eagles move to 9-3-1 for the season. Next action for JBU is Wednesday, October 22 when Oklahoma City University comes to Siloam Springs for a Sooner Athletic Conference game at 3 pm.
