JBU Men’s Basketball Rated 14th in NAIA Pre-Season Poll

Siloam Springs, Ark. (October 29, 2003) — The NAIA pre-season basketball ranking lists the JBU men’s team in 14th as the season is ready to kick off next week. In addition to the national ranking, the SAC pre-season coach’s poll has the Golden Eagles in the 2nd position behind Oklahoma Baptist University, a team that is rated 3rd in the NAIA pre-season ranking.

The SAC held their annual basketball pre-season basketball press conference this morning in Oklahoma City and the thought expressed by coach after coach was how tough it was to play night after night in the Sooner Athletic Conference. Several coaches expressed how difficult it was to get their new players to understand what it takes to compete in league play.

JBU head women’s coach Jeff Soderquist commented, “we have had two good recruiting years and that should help in the years to come. With the return of Frosh of the Year, Kendra McCormick, and the addition of quality players like Ashley Wettengel, we should be more competitive against conference foes.”

John Sheehy, men’s head coach said, “it is an honor for JBU to be picked 2nd in the pre-season SAC poll and 14th in the NAIA rating. We have had an up and down pre-season and want to get some consistency before SAC play begins in January. Last year’s SAC Frosh of the Year, Brandon Cole, has been plagued with injuries during our early practices. With the transfer of Ryan Woodson, we have added some inside strength to bolster our post play.”
