JBU Devastates Messenger College
Siloam Springs, Ark. (November 11, 2003) — Playing a completely undermanned team in Messenger College, The Golden Eagles women’s basketball team dominated in all phases of the game and destroyed the Eagles 105-7. With only 6 players on the roster, the visiting Eagles had only one player, Bekah Vollmar, score in the game.
Scoring the first 19 points of the game set the tone for what was to happen the remainder of the evening. Player after player on the JBU roster scored at will and the defense, although playing a soft man-to-man, prevented the Eagles from scoring within the 30 second shot clock on many occasions down the court.
Four Golden Eagles were in double figures with freshman Tara Stephenson leading the way with 17 points followed by her high school teammate Ashley Wettengel with 16, freshman Jordyn West with 13 and junior Caitlin Chandler had 12 points. Freshman Haley Hix led the team in rebounding with 10 boards.
JBU runs their season record to 2-1.
Next action for JBU is the Golden Eagles Women’s Basketball Classic on Friday and Saturday, November 14-15. JBU will play LSU-Shreveport on Friday at 8:00 pm and then Bethel College of Kansas on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 pm.
