JBU In Big Win Over Messenger
Siloam Springs, Ark. (November 11, 2003) — The Golden Eagles easily outdistanced the Eagles of Messenger College 94-39 on Tuesday night to up their season record to 3-0. Although Messenger stayed close through the first 4 minutes of play, JBU broke open the game with 15 unanswered points and took a 20-5 lead with 12:20 left in the first half. JBU continued to control the game and took a 43-20 lead into the locker room at the intermission.
Continuing with the point barrage in the second half, JBU had another 32-0 run where the Eagles of Messenger failed to score for a 10-minute block of time.
Commenting on the game, Coach John Sheehy said, “We like to have a few non-conference games where we are favored to win since the NAIA has no provision for quality of wins or losses. In March when the NAIA tournament pairings are set, the total number of wins becomes a factor in getting into the tournament. Messenger likes to play teams that are stronger than the teams in their conference in preparation for their conference season. A game like this allows us to look at some players who have not had much opportunity to play and it helps them to get a little more confidence in themselves.
We had 32 assists tonight and that shows that our players were not just looking to shoot, but were looking for the open man.”
JBU will play again at home this Saturday at 5:00 pm against Oklahoma Wesleyan.
