JBU Student Selected to Study with Pulitzer Prize Winners
Siloam Springs, Ark (May 7, 2002) — John Brown University student Matthew Vest of Lebanon, Missouri has been selected to attend the Brevard Music Center this summer in Brevard, North Carolina. During his six weeks at the center, Vest will specialize in music composition and will study with Pulitzer Prize winners Gunther Schuller and Karel Husa.
Vest received approximately $3,000 to attend the Brevard Music Center (BMC), which is a comprehensive music training program that provides intensive summer study for gifted high school, college, and pre-professional musicians, ages 14 and older, and offers a full range of operas and concerts with renowned guest artists. BMC attracts serious, dedicated students who have successfully completed a competitive audition and selection process. In the summer of 2002, Vest will join participants from approximately 40 states and 10 foreign countries to take part in BMC's intensive educational programs.
Vest is a senior at John Brown University, where he is pursuing a degree in music education. He is a member of the Honors Scholars Program at JBU.
