JBU Announces Historic $100 Million Capital Campaign

Siloam Springs, Ark. (October 8, 2009) – John Brown University announced the Keeping Faith: $100 Million Campaign today, taking public the campaign that to date has seen gifts of $62 million and pledges of $14 million.

“We deeply appreciate the generosity of JBU’s alumni and friends to get us to this point in the campaign. Their generosity speaks of their faith in JBU and its commitment to prepare students to honor God and serve others,” said Dr. Chip Pollard, university president. “Through this campaign, we are committing to keeping faith with JBU’s historic Christ-centered educational mission and to providing the resources necessary to continue that work with the current and future generations of students. Even in these difficult financial times, we have faith that God will provide what is needed to complete the campaign.”

Major building projects that have been or will be funded by the campaign include the new $8.5 million Berry Performing Arts center (opens Fall 2010); the new $9.5 million Bill George Arena (opens Fall 2010); the $6 million Cathedral Building Group renovation; the $3.5 million North Hall new wing; and the $1.3 million Kresge Dining Hall renovation.

Besides buildings, the campaign has helped and will continue to help keep the cost of an education at John Brown University more affordable with student scholarships. Approximately $30 million will be added to the university’s endowment, most of it to provide scholarships in perpetuity. Approximately $40 million is for annual scholarships, support for various programs and operating support.

“John Brown University was founded with the intention to help students who otherwise could not afford college,” said Dr. Jim Krall, Vice President for University Advancement. “The gifts in this campaign allow us to keep faith with that legacy by improving the quality of a JBU education through new campus buildings and support for programs, while providing scholarships for students with financial need.”

The Keeping Faith campaign has been in the silent phase since July of 2005. The university needs $24 million in additional gifts to complete the campaign, which it expects to do by the summer of 2012.
