Meet Your Counselor - Lauren
Meet Lauren - Admissions Counselor for Eastern US and Oklahoma
Lauren Pemberton: Hi, I’m Lauren Pemberton and I work with students from Oklahoma and the Eastern U.S. Yes, like half of the country. I came to JBU in 2005 to study Public Relations and after I graduated I moved to Nashville, Tennessee and Kansas City all before landing back here three years later. Turns out, I just couldn’t get away. I’m 5’4”, and when I was born I was 23 and a half inches long which is essentially two feet. So, if you do the math, I was about half grown when I was born. In the words of my grandmother, “they all thought I was going to be the Jolly Green Giant.” Thanks grandma. This also caused a problem when I wanted to dance all the time and they couldn’t find a tutu large enough.
Park Dinger: Lauren, she’s like a breath of fresh air to our office, if you consider synth-pop beats and un-adulterated enthusiasm fresh air, which we do.
Lauren: My job as Admissions Counselor is to get to know the student and help them see what JBU would be like for them. I’m basically your go-to person for any JBU question. If I don’t know the answer, I’ll figure it out. When graduation day came for me in 2009, I was not ready to leave JBU. My parents showed up and I hadn’t packed a single thing. I think I was in denial of the fact that it was actually time to leave what I had come to know as home. And I was happy to be done with the school work and everything, but I was not happy to be leaving JBU. I was pushed intellectually and spiritually and that’s part of the reason that I wanted to do this job, because I want students to have the same experience I had. So, when I was offered this job, I couldn’t pass it up. I don’t know if you’ve visited JBU or met any of our staff but coming to work every day is like a party. So, you should probably come visit soon.
