Tom Verdery: I think ethics are one of the most important things we can be teaching a Grad student.
Karen Morales: Ethics involves behavior, involves relationships, involves doing the right thing at the right moment with the right people.
Carine Netto: It’s just doing the right thing – just no matter what the cost is and making sure that you are doing the right thing for your company, for the customer, for the consumer, for everybody along the line.
Shruti Panchal: Every person behaves, or reacts, or does something for a reason – you’ve got to get to the roots.
Tom Verdery: What I do is I expose them to ethical experiences and dilemmas and help them make decisions for themselves – hopefully based on the same kind of values that both John Brown University has and myself and many of the other instructors here.
Carine Netto: I think in the JBU program – it brought up examples of doing the right thing and examples of companies that didn’t do the right thing and how it turned into demise for them.
Brenda Younger: And I truly went in to many of these ethics classes, thinking well this will be a simple class. This will be very black and white. Often times they are gray.
Carine Netto: A lot of times it is tiny little things that can slip and if you let a couple of those small things slip, I think you’ll end up going down a very slippery slope really quickly.
Shruti Panchal: We are all different and we just have to have a perspective to see it from the other side.
Xue Lee: Integrity is a big, big word when it comes to ethics- just ethics. And so some cultures- they understand that word, but in translation it can get lost
Shruti Panchal: in such a time, you definitely draw a line, and you figure out “is that acceptable from where my origin is”?
Tom Verdery: That is it’s fully based on the values that you have and you take those with you no matter what country you are in.
Carine Netto: They really want to develop your heart as well and make sure we kept going back to what was really important and what the core of who we are is.
